At Dorene Joyce Designs, my mission is to inspire creativity, confidence, and joy through art quilting, mixed‑media expression, and hands‑on teaching. I believe every maker has a story worth telling, and every quilt—traditional, modern, or artful—becomes a canvas for color, value, texture, and meaning.
Through my workshops, lectures, patterns, and Creative Journey community, I help quilters explore new techniques, trust their artistic instincts, and discover the excitement that comes from letting go of fear and embracing experimentation. My work blends fabric collage, mixed media, vibrant color, and expressive design to encourage makers to see their quilts as both art and personal narrative.

Dorene is a lifelong artist and designer. She is experienced in many forms of art and design and has a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication.
Dorene’s Art quilt, “Jumping for Joy”, won 1st place in the Challenge Quilt competition at Art Quilt Tahoe 2019. Currently Dorene is working on Fabric Collage quilts, traditional quilts and experiencing Joy in the Journey of Life with creativity. About my work
I want my work to capture a sense of excitement and drama with a message that conveys a thought or feeling. Because contrast provides the viewer the illusion of depth, I carefully consider the color values I use to create a piece that is realistic but at the same time stylistic. I commonly use saturated colors with a slant toward creating works with a Renaissance or Favist feel. Value, Hues and the purity and colorfulness of the piece as a whole, can provide an experience for the viewer. I want the viewer of my Art, whether it’s an Art Quilt or a Traditional quilt or a combination, to feel and be taken along in my story.
