🌻 Making Time for What Matters: A Creative Rhythm for living well
by Dorene Joyce
Over the last couple of weeks, I found myself pulled back into a project that had been quietly waiting for me—my Sunflower Quilt. You know how some pieces sit in a basket or on a shelf, not because we don’t love them, but because life has a way of filling our days with everything else. But something shifted for me recently. I didn’t wait for the “perfect” day or a long stretch of free time. I simply made a little space—an hour here, a quiet morning there—and before I knew it, that sunflower began to bloom again under my hands.
Working on that quilt reminded me of something important:
our creativity doesn’t need huge blocks of time… it needs a little intention, and a place in our daily rhythm.

QUILT CAMP - FEBRUARY
I don't think I mentioned this before, but in February,we all gathered together for Quilting with Jackie Quilt Camp - Texas Style last Month.  Progress was made, new projects started and all had a joyful time together with our Quilty Friends!

 SAY YES TO JOYFUL LIVING
Saying Yes to Joyful living may mean being more intentional - at least it did for me.   I am trying to be more intentional so that I gain more balance in my life, and consequently - gain more momentum in all areas that are needed. (Like sending my newsletters but also including my creative making and family which is so important to me.)  So, I determined that Joyful living can't be just one area, but having a well-balanced life, has to include many categories.   I am calling these "categories" - Pillars of Time.    Here's my take on what I need to pay attention to and plan for:

Quilt Projects: Saying Yes to Your Creative Self
Whether it’s a brand-new idea, a UFO calling your name, or a “try something new” experiment, give yourself permission to show up for your creativity. Even 20–30 minutes can move a project forward. My Sunflower Quilt grew in tiny pockets of time, and each little step felt like a gift.
Personal: Caring for the Woman Behind the Quilt
A walk outside, a cup of tea, a good book, making a delightful meal, a moment with the animals in the yard—these small things refill the well. When we care for ourselves, our creativity flows more freely.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family: Staying Connected in Simple Ways
A text to a grandchild, a phone call with a sister, a shared laugh with one of your kids—these moments stitch our hearts together. They don’t have to be big or planned. They just need to be intentional.
🌼 A Gentle Invitation
If you’ve been longing to get back to your quilting…
If your UFOs are whispering to you from their baskets…
If your creative heart feels a little dusty or neglected…
Let this be your nudge.
You don’t need a studio.
You don’t need a whole day.
You don’t need everything perfectly organized.
You just need a little space in your rhythm—a soft opening where your hands can move, your mind can rest, and your spirit can breathe.
Your quilts are waiting for you.
Your creativity is waiting for you.
And you are worth the time it takes to make something beautiful.
Take time to do something creative!

“Stand still and consider the wondrous works of God.” — Job 37:14
When I slow down enough to notice beauty—light on fabric, color in creation, the quiet shimmer of an idea—I remember that awe is often waiting in the moments I pause to truly see.
